MAY DAY *« RALLY

THE ECONOMIC CRISIS AND THE WORKING CLASS FIGHTBACK

1- 5pm Sunday 3 May @ Malet Room, University of London Union (ULU), Malet Street, WC1E 7HY

e WE WON'T PAY FOR THEIR CRISIS! WORKING CLASS RESISTANCE TO SACKINGS AND PAY CUTS Rank and file trade unionists from Britain join with speakers from Ireland and France to discuss the huge strikes that are taking place overseas and how we can build a mass movement here too.

e THE REVOLUTIONARY ALTERNATIVE TO CAPITALISM: A SOCIALIST PROGRAMME FOR A WORLD IN CRISIS Speaker: Richard Brenner, author of ‘The Credit Crunch - A Marxist Analysis’

WORKERS POWER

The government is giving hundreds of billions to banks, while they axe workers’ jobs and cut our pay. But we didn't cause the crisis - the bankers and the bosses did. So why should workers have to pay the price? This economic crisis is hitting the whole world. The recession could be turning into a depression, creating an ever more dangerous world of conflict between nations and of sharp struggles between the capitalists and the workers.

This rally will bring together workers and youth who are demanding change. We want mass resistance to the sackings and pay cuts, we want the billions wasted on bank bailouts spent creating millions of useful jobs instead, and we want an end to the crazy system of capitalist profiteering

__ and its replacement with a socialist planned

economy.

Come along and join the discussion on 3 May.

WE WONT PAY FOR THEIR CRISIS

WE WON'T PAY FOR THEIR CRISIS

Ba the world the capitali are trying to force w

people to pay for the recession.

They have given hundreds of billions to bail out the bankers who caused the crisis. And now they're sacking workers and cutting wages - from Ford and Indesit to BMW and Woolworths.

Why should the workers have to pay? The banks and the bosses caused the crisis - they are the ones who should pay for it.

Instead of bailing out banks, Brown should be spending the billions saving jobs, pay and pensions, creating new jobs across Britain.

The money's there - if only he taxed the rich.

The banks should all be nationalised. So should all companies that declare redundancies. State owned companies should be run by the workers for social need not for profits and bonuses. We should cut the Hours not the jobs, with no loss of pay.

The workers at Prisme in Dundee and Waterford in Ireland show the way forward by occupying their workplaces. Every plant or office that closes or cuts jobs should be occu-

pi) @ he

pied too.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED

Our trade union leaders should be doing much more to fight bac

They should:

° Call strikes against job losses, pay

lINRKERCDAWER CON

cuts and privatisation. e Call a one day general strike as a show of our strength, just like French workers have.

e Demand jobs for all.

e Launch an unemployed workers union.

In every union, we should organise from below to build action with the union leaders where possible and without them where necessary. If the union leaders sit on their hands, we should organise action without them. We should link up from below by building committees for action in every town and city.

lf Brown or the bosses use the antiagainst us, then we all over Britain

union. laws

should spread action

in a general strike.

UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL

lf greedy bosses pay foreign workers or agency staff less than the going rate, we should unite and fight to level up pay and conditions. We should reject the call for ‘British jobs, for British workers’, which turns worker against worker. Instead we say ‘workers of all countries unite.’ the Nazi BNP try to stir up hatred, we should crive them off the streets and back into the gutter where they belong.

lo to the EU? Some union leaders have started a campaign blaming the EU for the crisis. And, certainly, any

for the cri-

bosses who are to blame sis - British bosses are too. After all, Britain anti-union laws - the worst er

ment laws in western Europe.

NEW PARTY NEEDED

The Labour Jandelson is paying billions

still has Margaret Thatcher's nploy-

Party of Brown and to the posses and kicking the workers in the teeth. But our biggest unions are Ss a Labour to the tune of mil-

ns. The unions should stop Labour and set up a new workers’ party instead.

A new workers’ party could unite the working class - British and foreign - in a fight against the capitalist and ceils
